Life of Abu Hurairah
13:51:21 06/13/2024Life of Abu Hurairah: Abu Hurairah (RA) is one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the preacher of his Hadith and deeds.
He is a descendant of Sulaym ibn Fahm of the Azad tribe of southern Arabia. He is best known as Abu Hurairah. There is disagreement about his real name. The most reliable opinion is ‘Abdur Rahman Ibn Sakhr or’ Umayr Ibn Amir.
The popularity of this nickname hides his real name. Abu Hurairah arrived in Medina between the treaty of Hudaybiyyah and the battle of Khaybar, then converted to Islam. He was thirty years old. From then on, he followed the holy companionship of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and became one of the Companions of Suffa.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) always followed the Prophet (peace be upon him) like a shadow, taking every opportunity of his service and listening to his holy words. Even he would often carry a vessel of water for the ablution and defecation of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and would follow him in Hajj and Jihad.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to distribute almost all the food he received as a gift among the Companions. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to spend his days eating as much as he could, even if it was very insufficient. Whenever the Companions saw him hungry, they would invite him to their house for a meal.
One day Ja’far ibn Abu Talib took him with him, but as there was nothing in his house, he presented the empty pot of ghee. Abu Hurairah (RA) tried to quench his hunger by licking it. He used to spend a lot of time eating dates and drinking water.
Sometimes he would lie down with a stone tied to his stomach, but he would never ask for anything from anyone. Abu Hurairah has narrated the most hadiths. The total number of hadiths narrated by him is 5374. There are a total of 352 hadiths in both Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, while Sahih Bukhari alone has 79. And 73 hadiths in Sahih Muslim.
